“Fast Skier” Junior Alpine Scholarship Fund

Ski Racing Development, World Cup Supply and Shred Optics are pleased to announce the fourth year of the “Fast Skier” Junior Alpine Scholarship Fund. The purpose of the Scholarship award is to provide monetary assistance to a deserving junior alpine ski racer. $1,500, an SRD race suit, WCS Start Cape and a helmet and goggle package from Shred Optics will be awarded to the USSA J3 athlete who exhibits the personal characteristics required for success both on and off the hill.

“The award is especially important to us at WCS this year as it is our 20th anniversary”, commented Brad Williams of World Cup Supply, Inc. “The number of applications we receive always surprises us and the quality of the kids applying makes it an especially hard decision each time around. “We’ve had three great winners so far with Andrew Black being the most recent.” Andrew’s mom Hayley recently gave us this update. “One of his goals as a first year J2 was to have his FIS points under 100 in all disciplines and he has accomplished that with his best FIS finish at 1 8th in GS and 20th in SG.” His best USSA race finishes were 1st and 3rd in GS with an overall finish of 6th for J2’s. He continues his athletics this Spring with baseball and also attends Young Life Youth Group when his crazy schedule allows for it. Before his Winter race schedule hit he maintained a 4.0 (7 classes) and now maintains his school work from the road.”

This year the application deadline will be May 25, 2012 and the winner will be announced on June 25th. As with prior years the award will recognize dedication, talent, skill, personal integrity and a passion for ski racing. Academic achievement and community involvement remain important factors in the selection process as well. “Our goal is to develop our grassroots support program starting with these highly motivated young athletes as the progress towards the US Ski Team and possible collegiate, World Cup and Olympic level competition.” notes Barry Levinson of Ski Racing Development, Inc. (SRD).

Interested athletes may find the application by visiting: www.junioralpinescholarship.com. The application deadline is May 25, 2012.

2011 SRD/WCS/Shred "Fast Skier" Scholarship awarded!

World Cup Supply (WCS), Ski Racing Development (SRD), and Shred are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2011 SRD/WCS/SHRED “Fast Skier” Junior Alpine Scholarship Fund award is Andrew Black of Spokane, WA. A 2nd year J3 out of the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School (SARS) at Schweitzer Mountain ID, Andrew has not only posted solid results on the race course, but also exemplifies the personal characteristics that the award represents: excellent academic achievement, extensive community involvement, and incredible drive and focus as an athlete. Andrew was invited to the Topolino Shootout, made the J3 Junior Nationals as a first seed for the PNSA and won the PNSA Overall J3 Men’s title.

As the recipient of the 3rd annual scholarship award Andrew will receive$1,000.00, an Athlete’s pack and a 2012 speed suit from SRD, a Winter Storm Coat from WCS, and a Shred race helmet and goggle package.

“Once again the equality of applicants this year reinforces the growing significance of this award” commented Barry Levinson of SRD. “Andrew’s results this past season, his goals of attending a high-caliber university and his understanding of the many sacrifices required to reach his goal of being an Olympic skier will go a long way to helping him develop into an outstanding skier and person.”

In its third year, the Fast Skier Scholarship recognizes a J3 racer who is well rounded athletically and academically and gives back to his or her community.

"The caliber of applicants was extremely high this year and Andrew really stood out amongst the 80+ athletes who we heard from. He is truly a well-rounded individual who has his 'head in the right place': solid race results on the hill, a 4.0 GPA, Eagle Scout, and a long list community service activities. We had difficulty figuring out when he sleeps. What is really encouraging to see as we make this third scholarship award is the fact that the kids involved in the sport today are setting themselves up not only for success on the hill, but more importantly success later on in life and that is what we are trying to promote." Commented Brad Williams of World Cup Supply.
