“The award is especially important to us at WCS this year as it is our 20th anniversary”, commented Brad Williams of World Cup Supply, Inc. “The number of applications we receive always surprises us and the quality of the kids applying makes it an especially hard decision each time around. “We’ve had three great winners so far with Andrew Black being the most recent.” Andrew’s mom Hayley recently gave us this update. “One of his goals as a first year J2 was to have his FIS points under 100 in all disciplines and he has accomplished that with his best FIS finish at 1 8th in GS and 20th in SG.” His best USSA race finishes were 1st and 3rd in GS with an overall finish of 6th for J2’s. He continues his athletics this Spring with baseball and also attends Young Life Youth Group when his crazy schedule allows for it. Before his Winter race schedule hit he maintained a 4.0 (7 classes) and now maintains his school work from the road.”
This year the application deadline will be May 25, 2012 and the winner will be announced on June 25th. As with prior years the award will recognize dedication, talent, skill, personal integrity and a passion for ski racing. Academic achievement and community involvement remain important factors in the selection process as well. “Our goal is to develop our grassroots support program starting with these highly motivated young athletes as the progress towards the US Ski Team and possible collegiate, World Cup and Olympic level competition.” notes Barry Levinson of Ski Racing Development, Inc. (SRD).
