Morse Code: Trip to the Maine State House!

Here is a picture of the J2 Nationals team from CVA at the Maine state house. We got invited by our local Senator to come down to the Maine state house and be honorary pages in the Senate. This picture is actually of us in the House of representatives which was just one of the awesome things we got to see on our tour of the state house. Believe it or not, the Senator that invited us is the gregarious one on the far left with the pink bow tie.

When the Senate went into session we were honorary pages, which basically means you are the messengers for the Senators. It is a law that the Senators are not allow to get up and walk around and talk to each other so instead they pass notes, just like in a middle school class room. Sometimes the notes are serious notes about how another Senator might vote on a particular issue, or the notes a lot of times are just funny. You see the receiver of the note and the send of the note just break out laughing when the note is delivered and read. Being a page means you sit right in front of the President of the Senate and all of the Senators are looking at you all the time.

This was really cool though because you got to be right in the middle of the action and experience how laws are made. Since this was the Maine Senate they were talking about issues that directly effected my life, this made it interesting to listen too unlike c-span. This was a great opportunity given to me because of ski racing. Who would have thought that ski racing would bring you to politics! Thanks so much SRD, for the support! Hope everyone is revved up for some dry land training!
