Breezy's Blog

Winter has arrived!! Everyone knows what that means—skiing! Yes, ski season is here, what we have been anticipating since last April. Ski racers are running here and there to get to the best point races and then leaving their hearts on the hill as they fight for what we all dream of, Gold. As November turns to December ski racers, myself included, are jumping onto the hill and getting lap after lap of courses and powder. This is our time, as people run to Christmas shop, we set our edges in the hill and hope for the best.

For me, this is the time when I need ski racing most. In the craziness of life this time of year ski racing keep me sane, while driving me insane due to late nights, early mornings and homework. My first race is next weekend and like most racers I am nervous and exited for the time to prove what I can do. Lets get ready to lay down some race runs!

Pain in Panorama

A few weeks ago my team and I traveled to Panorama, Canada for some early season training! After enduring the painful 15hr drive through snow and ice (God bless our coaches for driving) we finally arrived in Panorama, greeting us with a chilly -20F degrees.

The training was amazing!! The only downside to the trip was that I got frostbite on the tip of my big toe. I had to take a day off skiing but it's all better now! Luckily it was not very severe.

I am very confident with my abilities going into this season and I've got a feeling it will be an awesome one in both competition results and ski conditions! Mt. Hood is actually getting snow this year! Hooray!

Being a Sugarloafer

Early this fall at Sugarloaf, was the Big Mountain Big Love movie premier.

This film captures what being a Sugarloafer means. Throughout the 2009-2010 winter season, Kurt Miller (son of legend Warren Miller and former owner of Warren Miller Entertainment) and director Chris Keig (who produced the snowboarding segment featured in the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics) worked to condense this experience of what it means to be a Sugarloafer into a short film.

The film covers the few powder days and the many of the cold icy days. The film was a 23 minute sum of what it is like to ski at the greatest mountain in the East. Featuring high definition skiing action, shot at Sugarloaf during the 2009-10 season, Big Mountain.

Big Love showcases Sugarloaf's history and celebrates the unique personalities that helped to shape the resort. It was an amazing film that really captures what it means to be a true Sugarloafer. This reason for why I am blogging about this is that I take great pride in being a Sugarloafer, and I thinks this helps other understand what it means to me. Check out the movie trailer for it by clicking on the link below.

990 Points and counting...........

One aspect of almost all sports that is hard to avoid is injuries. Just a week after returning to dryland after a month break due to a concussion, I injured my ankle playing soccer. Park City is open and I am sad that I am not hitting the slopes with my friends due to my swollen ankle. I hope for a quick recovery so I can start training soon

Ski season is finally here! My first race, Eric Hays is only two weeks away and I am not even on snow yet! As a first year J3, I will be starting with 990 points and Eric Hays will be the first time I begin to knock off points and prepare myself for the rest of the year.

I raced in the IMD South series for five years and spent the last year wishing I was a J3. Now that I am one and the first race is coming up, the reality is finally soaking in. I am a J3! I am excited to have points and compete in championship races.

As excited as I am for ski season, all the training, traveling and ski tuning is a huge time commitment. During ski season, I miss lots of school and it is hard to keep up. To help ease the pressure, I have parent release for my last period everyday. I have been doing online classes throughout the summer, fall and spring to makeup for the lost credits.

Good luck to you all with your first ski races.
