"Fast Skier" Scholarship for 2009 Awarded!

Ski Racing Development (SRD), World Cup Supply (WCS), Halti USA and Shred are pleased to announce to that the winner of the 2009 SRD/WCS/HALTI “Fast Skier” Junior Alpine Scholarship Fund award is Stephanie Schott of Salt Lake City, Utah.

A first year J2 at Rowmark Academy in Salt Lake City, UT, and Stephanie has not only posted impressive results on the hill, but also exemplifies the personal characteristics that the award represents: strong academic achievement, extensive community involvement, and incredible drive as an athlete. As the recipient of the scholarship award Stephanie will receive $1,000, a 2010 speed suit from HALTI USA, and as a last minute added extra, Shred has contributed a helmet and goggle package.

“Stephanie really exemplifies the intent of this award” commented Barry Levinson of SRD. “Her results on the hill this year were especially strong when you consider that it was only five years ago when she actually started to ski. She was the PNSA J3 Overall Champ in 2008 and is ranked in the top 30 in all disciplines for first year J2’s for 2009.”

The goal of the scholarship is to recognize a J3/J2 racer who is well rounded athletically and academically and gives back to his or her community. With over 120 applications submitted the pool of candidates surpassed expectations and was deep in talent, making the decision that much more challenging.

“In addition to her results, Stephanie made the Honor Roll taking advanced classes this year at Rowmark Academy, purchases school supplies for a school and orphanage in Mexico with money earned selling jewelry she makes, volunteers at a camp for special needs children, and puts forth the effort in all aspects of her life to be the best she can be. It’s incredible to think about her accomplishments on the hill given her short time in the sport, especially when she is so committed to academics and helping others.” Added Brad Williams of World Cup Supply”

“We hope the Scholarship will gain momentum by acquiring additional support from the industry for next year” added Levinson. “Both HALTI and Shred were late entries into the group and their support is great to have for the winner”.
