Update from Katharine

Hey everyone

In Vail we have been getting so much snow we have had been having crazy powder days. Last Sunday we got 17” in Vail and Beaver Creek, and the past few days we have been epic powder days too! We have gotten 13” in the last 48 hours and it is still snowing. The majority of Vail is now open and we finally had our first day of training at the race arena on Golden Peak. It has been great getting back on my home hill. The training has also been great; the race arena has much better training than the runs open to the public.

Last week 9 of my teammates and I got to train the Birds of Prey downhill course! This training was by far the best downhill training I have had. We could not run the Brink because all the B- net was down and it would have been too dangerous, and they were also getting the run ready for the public. We did get to run Screech Owl jump, Golden Eagle jump, Harrier jump, and Red Tail jump. The 10 of us we able to train with the National Development System guys, and for a little bit we trained with the United States world cup men. The U.S guys we trained with raced the course a few days earlier. My teammates and I had such a fun time and we only had one injury the whole week, but of course it was on the last run of the last run. The injury was minor and all of us will be able to go to the Smart Wool race this weekend!

The first Smart Wool series race is this weekend in Vail! If you are in Vail come and stop by it is sure to be a blast. Everyone is so excited. Some of the ability boys and girls have already had their first race, and have done well. Ski season is really getting going at a fast rate…so exciting.

Lets all pray for lots more snow and a great season! Good luck in all your races this season.

.)) Katharine Irwin
