C.V.A. (Carrabassett Valley Academy) Hosts Annual Biathlon
Posted by Sam Morse
In May C.V.A. (Carrabassett Valley Academy) hosts an annual biathlon which ALL students participate in. This daunting challenge of a 12 mile bike ride fallowed by a 5 mile run brings out the competitiveness from all the disciplines at the school. No matter weather it was the free-ride team or the alpine racers, we were all competing together which is a really neat opportunity.
You have the option of having a partner or iron manning it. It was not just the students that came out for this event but a large number of the C.V.A. faculty comes out and shows up the students! Our director of academics won the men iron man and one of our chemistry/earth science/physical science won for the female iron.
Also in fact our beloved physics teacher who is my adviser was one of the top women to finish in the biking. After the event it comes down to numbers crunching time for there is a C.V.A. Big Dog Biathlon Cup which is awarded after each year to the discipline which earns the most race points, everyone gets a certain amount of points for participating in the event and then it is combine with how they did in the results of the race and then it is percentages of the teams so teams with a large amount of kids doesn't always win. The mens alpine was the raining champions coming into this year but we were sadly defeated by the women's alpine.
I just wanted to share to special event with you to just show a community event which brings C.V.A. together!
