Katelyn Barclay says Hello!

Hello again!

It has been a great season with almost 40 starts! Back in February, I competed in J2 Nationals for the Eastern Team at Sugarloaf, Maine. It was a rough ride, but I came home with a 4th in the Super G and 5th in the Downhill, which was just a FIS race before the actual Championship race.

The fun definitely did not stop there, and we came to the Nor-Am finals Super G at my home hill, Burke Mountain. The first day was the longest ever! The Men’s first run in the Super combined did not start until 1 because the for-runners were getting almost 50 meters of air, they had to reset the course 4 times to make it safe.

I can tell you, no one thought that this race was going to happen. But of course, with the help of many Burke Mountain Academy staff members, we got all 3 runs off, ending the race day at 5:30 in the afternoon! It was CRAZY!

I was first for J2s on the first day, and unfortunately did not finish on the second day. Then, it was off the US Nationals on at Whiteface, in my home state, New York. The weather was crazy and the snow was soft, but overall, I thought the race series was a lot of fun.

I ended up 29th in the Super G, finishing without a mitten or a pole (I lost them both on the 5th gate!) Finally, we came back to Burke for the Eastern Cup finals super G. tragically, I did not finish the run and went down with a knee injury that did not allow me to ski for the end of the season.

Don’t worry, it was nothing too serious and I plan to be at Mt. Hood for the first summer camp in June with Burke! I hope you all had as fun and exciting winter as I did! See you later!
