Ali Gets Fired Up!

Earlier this season I competed in a Speed Series in Mammoth Mountain, California. There were two Super G’s and two Downhills. It was a great race. In the final downhill I got really fired up and I was second place, first for J2s. That result combined with the rest from the speed series, qualified me for the J2 Nationals in Sugarloaf, Maine.

I got back from competing in Sugarloaf about a week and a half ago. It was a great experience. Just a few days before we arrived it snowed over 5 feet! They had to change up the schedule (move the DH to the end) and the slalom ended up being really soft snow! Unfortunately I fell in the slalom but I came back the next day and scored a decent GS result.

The next day was Super G and the snow started to firm up. The Super G was quite fast and I was clocked at 70 mph! It was really fun. Because of schedule changes we were only able to get one downhill training run and then we raced a regular FIS downhill. The last race was the championship downhill. It was a lot of fun, and fast! I was clocked at 76 mph! I could’ve done a little better but it was a great experience and since I’m a first year J2, I’m excited and looking forward to next year!
