The Loveland Derby

Competitors throughout the United States are preparing for the last amateur slalom event of the year. The oldest and largest alpine race in North America returns to Loveland Ski Area, April 12 - 13, 2008.

Typically fielding 400-500 competitors, The Loveland Derby attracts racers from as far away as Alaska and Florida to compete in the final points race of the season in Colorado. Varsity ski team members for the University of Colorado and the University of Denver will be setting the pace.

The 48th Annual Loveland Derby will be held at the Loveland Valley on four courses spread across three trails. Contestants must be licensed USSA members of any age.

The Loveland Derby is an all-volunteer initiative and begins Saturday, April 12th at 9:30 a.m. The festivities conclude Sunday at approximately 4:00 p.m. with an awards ceremony. The Derby has long been known as the race of the year to attend. Many athletes compete to lower their total points and obtain a better seed for next season's early races, while others have been known to show up in costumes celebrating the end of another long racing season.

We hope our SRD racers can grab a few final podiums!
